Meet the Team

David Somers

David’s passion for harnessing people’s potential to “do the best they can” no doubt began in his Army days.  Graduating from the Royal Military Academy and leading what can best be described as some fairly “tough” characters as a young 2nd Lieutenant, David developed his innate ability to inspire and motivate others.

Today, David applies these same qualities to the benefit of businesses throughout the UK.

Like all great leaders, David’s hands-on approach and real world experience bring credibility to his work – David doesn’t deal in theory, but offers proven, practical and measurable solutions to transport operators who want to improve profits, improve safety and grow their businesses.

Ian Brooks

Ian is a former Roads Policing Chief Inspector who went on to undertake a Masters degree in Occupational Safety & Health. He is committed to, and passionate about, helping business organisations to achieve the many benefits that follow from the effective management of Work Related Road Risks. The major benefit is increasing profit by reducing costs.

Roger Burton

Roger served 23 years in Cheshire Constabulary specialising in the haulage industry. After retiring from the Police Force Roger worked for blue chip companies, as a trainer for both Drivers and Managers in legal compliance, fuel economy, health and safety procedures, including site safety awareness. Roger has carried out in depth road traffic collision investigations and in depth legal compliance audits for blue chip companies. Roger is also our leading Driving CPC trainer. Roger has worked with Road skills for over 10 years. Our clients have benefited from his in depth knowledge and experience.

David Holloway

David has extensive experience of dealing with road collisions as a retired specialist in Roads Policing. His policing role incorporated building and site safety at design and construction stages.  David worked closely with VOSA and the HSE and understands how those organisations define a compliant company. He has also managed the investigations of many fatal and serious injury collisions and directed investigations.   David joined the Road Skills Team in 2010.

Derek Sharpe

Derek gained valuable experience driving both heavy goods vehicles and buses before joining Cleveland Police.  During his Police Service he served in the Traffic Department and the Training Department.  At the time of his retirement from the Police he was Head of The Road Policing Unit.  Derek is a qualified teacher and assessor and since retirement from the Police has used his experience and skills to promote road safety, including presentation of the DfT’s Drink-Drive Rehabilitation Course and the National Speed Awareness Course.
