Paul Nicholas Carter is known as Nick and has had over 30 years in the haulage business as a Director of his own multi-faceted transport company and, as such, had responsibility for finance, compliance and safety. He was one of the very first hauliers to attain FORS in Yorkshire (that is when he met David) and to achieve ISO 9001& 14001. Nick soon realised David’s system for introducing and maintaining FORS within a business was beneficial on so many levels and easy to use for staff training. It also became apparent that FORS gave him a competitive edge in being able to tender for contracts involving deliveries and specialist haulage projects within London.
Nick was very hands on in the day to day running of his business and thus understands the time constraints and pressures on the management team within a busy transport company and can help them fit FORS into their everyday thinking and practices. He made the FORS systems a good “habit” in his own business.
Nick has now sold his business but is still involved in the transport industry as he instructs CPC to drivers on a regular basis and, of course, he is part of David’s team.
Nick is ex forces (Petty Officer Weapons Engineer – Royal Navy) and devotes some of his time as a case worker for SSAFA in East Yorkshire helping ex servicemen and their families. He likes motor homing and coastal walking and a few cultural visits abroad to broaden his horizons.
David launched Road Skills in 1991 after recognising that too many fleet operators were not getting the training and support they needed to operate safely and profitably.
He managed his own haulage fleet for many years following an Army career that saw him leading some ‘tough’ characters as a young Second Lieutenant after he had graduated from the Royal Military Academy.
David is passionate about harnessing people’s potential to ‘do the best they can’ and he applies this approach and his commercial and military experience to the benefit of businesses across the UK.
His hands-on approach and real-world experience bring credibility to his work: David never deals in theory, instead always delivering proven, practical, and measurable solutions to operators who wants to lift their safety profile, improve their profits and grow their businesses.
A keen Manchester United fan, David is passionate about sport — both watching and playing. He was a high level rugby player when younger, has run several marathons, and now enjoys playing racquetball and tennis regularly. David also enjoys spending time with his daughter.
Rosemary has been with Road Skills since 2009 and brings a wealth of experience to keeping the company’s finances running smoothly and supporting the rest of the team.
Married with two adult children, Rosemary loves skiing in the winter, playing tennis in summer, and also enjoys joining friends in her local walking group as well as singing in a choir.
Victoria has been with Road Skills since 2008, bringing many years’ experience in administration to the team.
She has been running her own secretarial and admin service since 2004 and manages all Road Skills’ back office systems and processes, making it her business to ensure everything runs smoothly and the rest of the team have what they need.
Victoria studied business, marketing and finance after leaving school and worked first in accountancy and banking before moving into administration.
When she’s not working, Victoria enjoys spending time with her children and the rest of her family. Her main hobbies are yoga and walking.
